The 6 Kalmas of Islam

The fundamental declarations of faith every Muslim should know.

1. First Kalma (Tayyab)

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ

Laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Muhammadur-Rasoolu-llaah

"There is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

2. Second Kalma (Shahadat)

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Ash-hadu Al-laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wahdahoo Laa Shareeka Lahoo Wa-Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan 'Abduhoo Wa Rasooluhu

"I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the One alone, without a partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."

3. Third Kalma (Tamjeed)

سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ وَلَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَٱللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Subhaana-llaahi Walhamdu Lillaahi Walaaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wallaahu Akbar. Walaa Hawla Walaa Quwwata Illaa Billaahi-l 'Aliyyil 'Azeem.

"Glory be to Allah and all praise be to Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no might or power except from Allah, the Exalted, the Great One."

4. Fourth Kalma (Tauheed)

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ ٱلْحَمْدُ، يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ أَبَدًا أَبَدًا، ذُو ٱلْجَلَالِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ بِيَدِهِ ٱلْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Wahdahoo Laa Shareeka-lahoo Lahu-l Mulku Walahu-l Hamdu Yuhyee Wayumeetu Wahuwa Hayyu-l Laa Yamootu Abadan Abada. Dhu-l Jalaali Wal Ikraam. Biyadihil Khair. Wahuwa Alaa Kulli Shai-'in Qadeer.

"There is none worthy of worship except Allah. He is alone and has no partner. To Him belongs the Kingdom and for Him is all praise. He gives life and causes death. And He is Alive. He will not die, never, ever. Possessor of Majesty and Reverence. In His hand is the goodness. And He is on everything powerful."

5. Fifth Kalma (Astaghfar)

أَسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّٰهَ رَبِّي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَذْنَبْتُهُ عَمَدًا أَوْ خَطَأً سِرًّا أوْ عَلَانِيَةً وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلذَّنْبِ ٱلَّذِي أَعْلَمُ وَمِنَ ٱلذَّنْبِ ٱلَّذِي لَا أَعْلَمُ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ وَسَتَّارُ ٱلْعُيُوْبِ وَغَفَّارُ ٱلذُّنُوبِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Astaghfiru-llaaha Rabbi Min Kulli Dhambin Adhnabtuhoo 'Amadan Aw Khata-an Sirran Aw 'Alaaniyata-wn Wa-atoobu Ilaihi Min-adh Dhambi-l Ladhee A'lamu Wamina-dh Dhambi-l Ladhi Laaa A'lamu Innaka Anta 'Allaamu-l Ghuyoobi Wasattaaru-l 'Uyoobi Wa Ghaffaaru-dh Dhunubi Walaa Hawla Walaa Quwwata Illaa Billaahi-l 'Aliyyil 'Azeem.

"I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly. I also seek His forgiveness for all sins which I am aware of or am not aware of. Certainly, You are the Knower of the hidden and the Concealer of mistakes and the Forgiver of sins. And there is no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great."

6. Sixth Kalma (Radde Kufr)

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْٓ اَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ اَنْ اُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَّاَنَآ اَعْلَمُ بِهٖ وَ اَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَآ اَعْلَمُ بِهٖ تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَ تَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَ الشِّرْكِ وَ الْكِذْبِ وَ الْغِيْبَةِ وَ الْبِدْعَةِ وَ النَّمِيْمَةِ وَ الْفَوَاحِشِ وَ الْبُهْتَانِ وَ الْمَعَاصِىْ كُلِِّهَا وَ اَسْلَمْتُ وَ اَقُوْلُ لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللهِ

Allaa-humma Inneee A'udhu-bika Min An Ushrika Bika Shay-awn Wa-ana A'lamu Bihee Wa- astaghfiruka Limaa Laaa A'lamu Bihee Tubtu 'Anhu Wata-barraatu Mina-l Kufri Wash-shirki Wal-kidhbi Wal-gheebati Wal-bid'ati Wan-nameemati Wal-fawahishi Wal-buhtaani Wal-m'aasi Kulli-haa Wa-Aslamtu Wa-aqoolu Laaa Ilaaha Illa-llaahu Muhammadu-r Rasoolu-llah.

"O Allah! I seek refuge in You from that I should ascribe any partner with You knowingly. I seek Your forgiveness from that which I do not know. I repent from it (ignorance) and I reject disbelief and joining partners with You and of falsehood and slandering and innovation in religion and tell-tales and evil deeds and the blame and the disobedience, all of them. I submit to Your will and I believe and declare: There is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger."

Dua Qunoot

Witr Prayer

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلاَ يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ وَلاَ يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ

"Allahumma ihdini feeman hadayt, wa a'fini fiman afait, wa tawallani fiman tawallait, wa barik Li fima atait, wa qini sharra ma qadait, fa Innaka taqdi wa la yuqda Alaik, wa innahu la yadhillu man walait, wa la ya'izzu man 'adayta, tabarakta Rabbana wa ta'alait."
"O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, befriend me among those You have befriended, bless me in what You have granted, and save me from the evil that You decreed. Indeed You decree, and none can pass decree upon You, indeed he is not humiliated whom You have befriended, and he is not honored whom You have opposed. Blessed are You our Lord and Exalted."

Durood Shareef

Sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is an act of great virtue.

Durood-e-Ibrahim

The best form of Durood, recited in daily Salah.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

"Allahumma salli 'alaa Muhammadin wa 'alaa 'aali Muhammadin, kamaa sallayta 'alaa 'Ibraaheema wa 'alaa 'aali 'Ibraaheema, 'innaka Hameedun Majeed. Allahumma baarik 'alaa Muhammadin wa 'alaa 'aali Muhammadin, kamaa baarakta 'alaa 'Ibraaheema wa 'alaa 'aali 'Ibraaheema, 'innaka Hameedun Majeed."
"O Allah, bestow Your favor on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad as You have bestowed Your favor on Ibrahim and on the family of Ibrahim, You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious."

Durood-e-Tanjina

A powerful prayer for deliverance from calamities.

ٱللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَاةً تُنْجِينَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيعِ ٱلْأَهْوَالِ وَٱلْآفَاتِ، وَتَقْضِي لَنَا بِهَا جَمِيعَ ٱلْحَاجَاتِ، وَتُطَهِّرُنَا بِهَا مِنْ جَمِيعِ ٱلسَّيِّئَاتِ، وَتَرْفَعُنَا بِهَا عِنْدَكَ أَعْلَى ٱلدَّرَجَاتِ، وَتُبَلِّغُنَا بِهَا أَقْصَى ٱلْغَايَاتِ، مِنْ جَمِيعِ ٱلْخَيْرَاتِ فِي ٱلْحَيَاةِ وَبَعْدَ ٱلْمَمَاتِ

"Allahumma salli 'ala Sayyidina Muhammadin salātan tunjīnā bihā min jamī'il ahwāli wal āfāt, wa taqḍī lanā bihā jamī'al ḥājāt, wa tuṭahhirunā bihā min jamī'is sayyi'āt, wa tarfa'unā bihā 'indaka a'lā d-darajāt, wa tuballighunā bihā aqṣā l-ghāyāti, min jamī'il khayrāti, fi l-ḥayāti wa ba'da l-mamāt."
"O Allah! Bestow blessings upon Sayyidina Muhammad and his Family, such blessings by means of which You may relieve us of all anxieties and calamities. You may satisfy all our needs. You may clean us of all evils, and thanks to which You may grant us a high position and high rank and status in Your presence, and You may lead us to the utmost limit of our aspirations and capacity in whatever is best in this world as well as in the Hereafter."

Daily Duas

Beneficial supplications for your daily life.

Morning Dua

أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

"Asbahna wa asbahal-mulku lillahi, wal-hamdu lillahi..."

"We have entered the morning and all sovereignty belongs to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah."

Evening Dua

أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

"Amsayna wa amsal-mulku lillahi, wal-hamdu lillahi..."

"We have entered the evening and all sovereignty belongs to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah."

Durood Shareef

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى سَيِّدِنَا وَمَوْلَانَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَاحِبِ التَّاجِ وَالْمِعْرَاجِ وَالْبُرَاقِ وَالْعَلَمِ، دَافِعِ الْبَلَاءِ وَالْوَبَاءِ وَالْقَحْطِ وَالْمَرَضِ وَالْأَلَمِ، اِسْمُهُ مَكْتُوبٌ مَرْفُوعٌ مَشْفُوعٌ مَنْقُوشٌ فِي اللَّوْحِ وَالْقَلَمِ، سَيِّدِ الْعَرَبِ وَالْعَجَمِ، جِسْمُهُ مُقَدَّسٌ مُعَطَّرٌ مُطَهَّرٌ مُنَوَّرٌ فِي الْبَيْتِ وَالْحَرَمِ، شَمْسِ الضُّحٰى بَدْرِ الدُّجٰى نُورِ الْهُدٰى كَهْفِ الْوَرٰى مِصْبَاحِ الظُّلَمِ، جَمِيلِ الشِّيَمِ، شَفِيعِ الْأُمَمِ، صَاحِبِ الْجُودِ وَالْكَرَمِ، وَاللهُ عَاصِمُهُ وَجِبْرِيلُ خَادِمُهُ وَالْبُرَاقُ مَرْكَبُهُ وَالْمِعْرَاجُ سَفَرُهُ وَسِدْرَةُ الْمُنْتَهٰى مَقَامُهُ وَقَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ مَطْلُوبُهُ وَالْمَطْلُوبُ مَقْصُودُهُ وَالْمَقْصُودُ مَوْجُودُهُ، سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّينَ شَفِيعِ الْمُذْنِبِيْنَ أَنِيسِ الْغَرِيبِيْنَ رَحْمَةٍ لِّلْعَالَمِيْنَ رَاحَةِ الْعَاشِقِيْنَ مُرَادِ الْمُشْتَاقِيْنَ شَمْسِ الْعَارِفِيْنَ سِرَاجِ السَّالِكِيْنَ مِصْبَاحِ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ مُحِبِّ الْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْغُرَبَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِيْنَ سَيِّدِ الثَّقَلَيْنِ نَبِيِّ الْحَرَمَيْنِ إِمَامِ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ وَسِيلَتِنَا فِي الدَّارَيْنِ صَاحِبِ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ مَحْبُوبِ رَبِّ الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَرَبِّ الْمَغْرِبَيْنِ جَدِّ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ مَوْلَانَا وَمَوْلَى الثَّقَلَيْنِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِاللهِ نُورٌ مِّنْ نُّورِ اللهِ، يَاأَيُّهَا الْمُشْتَاقُونَ بِجَمَالِهِ صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

Allaahumma salli 'alaa Sayyidinaa wa Mawlaanaa Muhammadin saahib-it-taaj wal-mi'raaj wal-buraaq wal-'alam, daafi'il-balaa-i wal-wabaa-i wal-qahti wal-marad wal-alam, ismuhu maktoobu-m marfoo'u-m mashfoo'u-m manqooshu-n fil-lawhi wal-qalam...
"O Allah, send blessings upon our Master and Leader Muhammad (SAW), the possessor of the Crown and the Night Ascent and Buraq and the (Divine) Standard, the repeller of tribulation, plague, drought, illness and pain. His name is written (on the Tablet), raised (in honour), exalted (in station), engraved on the Tablet and Pen. He is the Master of Arabs and non-Arabs, his body is sacred, fragrant, purified and radiant in the Ka'bah and the Sanctuary. He is the Sun of Duha, the Full Moon of Darkness, the Light of Guidance, the Refuge of Creation, the Lamp of Darkness, of noble character, the Intercessor of Nations, the possessor of Generosity and Nobility..."

Dua-e-Taraweeh دعائے تراویح

Ramadan

سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْمُلْكِ وَالْمَلَكُوتِ سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْعِزَّةِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ وَالْهَيْبَةِ وَالْقُدْرَةِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْجَبَرُوتِ، سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْحَيِّ الَّذِي لَا يَنَامُ وَلَا يَمُوتُ، سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ أَجِرْنَا مِنَ النَّارِ يَا مُجِيرُ يَا مُجِيرُ يَا مُجِيرُ

Subhaana dhil-mulki wal-malakoot. Subhaana dhil-'izzati wal-'azamati wal-haybati wal-qudrati wal-kibriyaa-i wal-jabarut. Subhaanal-malikil-hayyil-ladhee laa yanaamu wa laa yamoot. Subbuhun Quddusun Rabbunaa wa Rabbul-malaa-ikati war-rooh. Allaahumma ajir-naa minan-naari yaa Mujeer, yaa Mujeer, yaa Mujeer.
"Glory be to Allah, the Owner of the Kingdom and the Dominion. Glory be to Allah, the Owner of Might, Greatness, Awe, Power, Grandeur and Sovereignty. Glory be to the Living King who neither sleeps nor dies. He is Pure and Holy, our Lord and the Lord of the angels and the spirit. O Allah, save us from the Fire, O Saviour, O Saviour, O Saviour."

Dua for Sahur

Pre-Dawn Meal

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan
"I intend to fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan."

Dua for Iftar

Breaking Fast

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَعَلٰى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ

Allaahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa 'alayka tawakkaltu wa 'alaa rizqika aftartu
"O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance."
